Parents Television Council (PTC) is none too pleased with a scene in the January 3 episode of “American Dad!” which many refer to as “Horse Ejaculation”. FOX is due to pay The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) a $25,000 fine for negligence in properly responding to questions about airing the episode.

The episode, that drew 100,000 consumer complaints, had some between-the-lines racy jokes such as “Makeout Point”, “tongue your gas hole”, “POPPER Ln” and “CHERRY St.” Then there’s the horse chores where a character appears to give a horse an ejaculation because of his choice of language.
Before cleaning the animal, the character said to the horse, “Do me a favor and let me know when you’re about to, you know.” The scene then cut to the man being sprayed in the face but when the shot is pulled back, it turns out that a water hose did it.
Tim Winter president of PTC issued a statement, saying “A broadcast television network aired an animated program on a Sunday evening when children were in the audience, and the program featured a man masturbating a horse. Up until now, I never imagined that those exact words could ever be spoken in that particular order. But sadly, here we are”.
Shortly after that FCC responded, asking FOX information of which affiliated stations may have aired the episode. “But instead of sending the entire trove of complaints, the FCC sent Fox just a sample complaint identifying FOX station KDFW in Dallas,” Variety reported.
The network itself has also released a statement, saying it was puzzled by FCC’s action because it has “responded to all of the questions related to the substance” of the investigation. “We will respond in greater detail to the Commission in due course,” the network added.
Can you imagine ‘American Dad’ without Roger? It just wouldn’t work at all. Episodes with Roger in a pivotal role are generally at least twice as funny as those without him, which is probably why we’re seeing more and more of him. That said, this week Klaus actually got himself pulled into a pretty solid B-story, which is a rarity.
Klaus is a character that’s written much like Meg on ‘Family Guy,’ as if Seth MacFarlane and company have no idea what to do with him, but since they’ve established him as part of the family, they’re kind of stuck with him. But this week, working in tandem with Haley, Klaus actually got to do something, and that something turned into hilarity. Disturbing as all hell, but hilarious nonetheless.
Whereas Roger is a psychopath (or a sociopath, we really don’t know that much about him), without being particularly evil, Klaus is just lonely. So lonely, in fact, that he’ll do almost anything to be a part of almost anything anyone in the family is doing. This week, though, he was but the first part of his and Haley’s attempts to convince Steve that he was lucid dreaming, when in fact he wasn’t.
The whole way in which the lucid dreaming storyline played out was incredibly clever. The little dropped hint about the red ball being his clue that he’s in a lucid state was all that was needed to establish the ruse. That I didn’t even see this particular ploy coming made it all the more fun to watch, though things took a disturbing turn when Steve decided to pleasure himself in the car on the way to school, while Haley was driving.
Um … gross.
Regardless, everything else about that entire sequence was pure brilliance. Showing up late to school in his underwear, with burgers, telling off the teacher, standing up to the guy who was with “his” girl, and then leaping out of the window with her to fly. Okay, so things went too far, but it was worth it for the sight gag of the girl with the metal sticking out of her gut.
Even better than that was the A-story. Because of how the character of Roger has been established, he can do and say absolutely anything, and it’s within the parameters of acceptable for him. And we still love him. And the Smiths forgive and love him. I’m sure Stan will, after he gets some time to calm down.
After that inadvertent drunken kiss (Klaus would be so jealous), the tactics Roger employed to keep Stan and Francine separated just kept getting better and better. I loved how easily Stan was distracted from whatever was going on with Francine, by things as simple as a race to the car.
The culmination of Francine buried underground was the best, with Roger trying to jam food down her air pipe, including Sun Chips (which aren’t as healthy as you might think). For a moment, I thought he might actually tell Stan the truth, but then I remembered that this is Roger. He doesn’t tell the truth until he’s exhausted every other avenue of possibility, usually a few times.
When he finally did fess up, even though it was obvious that he was going to have buried Stan in the same way he had Francine, it was still funny to see. Even more so to hear Stan shrieking and yelling at him from underground. The “Previously” and “Next” framing sequence, explaining, establishing and eliminating the “High Five” necklaces enhanced the comedy, while explaining Roger’s insistence on keeping the kiss a secret. After all, best friends with Stan is one of his most passionate desires. Even better, the costume in the “Next” sequence was never explained.

American Dad, the FOX series created by Seth MacFarlane which has been recently honored with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Animated Program, will continue to follow the twisted adventures of CIA agent Stan Smith in Langley Falls now that FOX has picked up the show for its sixth season.
Currently ranking in the top 10 program of the season among teens and adults 18-34 with an average of 7.1 million viewers each week, American Dad also follows Stan Smith’s odd family consisting of his unfaltering loyal wife Francine, rebellious 18-year-old daughter Hayley, and geeky yet cocky 14-year-old son Steve. Rounding up the Smith household is Roger, the selfish and sarcastic space alien who lives in the attic, and Klaus, a perverted attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German man.
This renewal is certainly good news for Seth MacFarlane considering FOX just ordered nine additional episodes of The Cleveland Show just last month, bringing the second season of the series to a full 22-episode order. This means all of MacFarlane’s three shows, including Family Guy, are now good to go through the 2010-2011 seasons.
Earlier this evening, MacFarlane performed with Alex Borstein in a half-hour FOX comedy called Family Guy Presents Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show which featured various parodies from The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music and a gag involving Marlee Matlin’s speaking voice. The joke, however, was well received and considered less than scandalous since Matlin even came onstage to rip into the hosts.
When Hayley and Steve leave for their respective summers of fun, Francine looks forward to her newfound alone time with Stan. There’s only one problem: Roger is still living in the attic fighting for every second of attention he can get. When Francine teaches Roger to be self-sufficient, he finally gets a place of his own. Stan fears that he will bore Francine into leaving him and cooks up a scheme to bring Roger back to the house and liven things up. Meanwhile at camp, Steve and his pals fall prey to a scheme that doesn’t quite have the effect they were hoping for
